i'm learning newswords of the day now. in archives i read: "armed marshalls" but can't find "marshall" in my dictionaries. shouldn't it be spelt with just one L? thx

You are correct about the single L. "Marshall" is a reasonably common name in the U.S., and most of them do have two arms. However, the news item was probably not referring to the family.
