I have a question concerning All Saints' Day in America. Do you celebrate it on the 1st of November as people in Poland do ? Waiting for the reply.

All Saints Day is celebrated on November 1 by Catholics in the United States, and Mexicans celebrate the Day of the Dead this weekend. November 2 is All Souls Day when American Catholics remember family and friends who have died, but the tributes are small compared to those in Poland. My church remembers the people who have died with special intentions all through the month of November.
More Americans are familiar with the secular celebrations on All Hallow's Eve or Halloween, October 31. I believe that Halloween represents a mixture of Christian and pagan beliefs where ghosts, witches, and spirits are the focus. Children dress in costumes and walk to houses in their neighborhood asking for candy. Adults will also dress in costumes for masquerade parties, and some will even wear their costumes to work. Pumpkin carving, apple bobbing, and haunted houses are traditional activities for the secular holiday. However, born-again Christians are not comfortable with Halloween's focus on vampires, witches, ghosts, and monsters, so their churches will sometimes offer haunted houses that present moral depictions of Heaven and Hell as an alternative.

Thank you very much for the reply. I will probably be the frequent visitor to this forum as I'm curiuos about some customs in the States. I know something about this or that but you know, if you only read about some thing you can never be sure to the very end unless you learn it from the first hand experience or at least from a person who experiences this or that. Bye for now, Beata.
